After having buildings across the district assessed late last year, the Janesville School District is getting some early cost estimates on how much upgrades and rehab would cost.
Chief Financial Officer Dan McCrea says the initial estimate, provided by JP Cullen, comes in at $570 million, but that doesn’t mean the district is asking the public for that much or doing that amount of work, it’s just a high level and initial assessment.
McCrea says mechanical, electrical, and plumbing are big drivers in the cost, but another major one is roofing because the district has over two million square feet in roofs across all their buildings.
McCrae says now they’ll begin to get the community involved and receive input to determine how they want to move forward.
