Janesville’s west side will get a mini-preview this coming week of the big tear-up planned along Center Avenue this year.
The city of Janesville says Alliant Energy plans to open up Center Avenue in a four-block span to knock out utility work between McKinley and Johnson Streets.
That scheduled work will crimp the span of Center Avenue to a northbound and southbound lane just south of the busy Five Points intersection from Monday through Wednesday.
It’s work Alliant is knocking out in advance of the city’s planned replacement this year of a 1.4-mile stretch of Center Avenue from between Five Points south to Nicolet Street. That stretch of Center Avenue is the heart of Janesville’s west and south-side commercial corridor.
Drivers should expect minor traffic delays during Alliant’s work this coming week, and people should watch for crews at work on the project.
The city says the work will shut down the bus stop at Center Avenue and West Holmes Street. Another bus stop remains open at West Court and South Locust streets.
