The Rock County Medical Examiner is releasing the name of the man who was shot to death by a Janesville Police Officer on March 1st.

Preliminary results of the autopsy confirm that 52-year-old Andrew J. Zigler of Janesville died as a result of firearm related trauma.

According to a news release from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, officers were dispatched to a home on the 1200 block of North Parker Drive just before 10:00 p.m. on the report of an armed subject.

Zigler refused to exit the residence or allow two victims inside the home to safely exit.

An officer discharged their service weapon and struck Zigler who died at the scene. A gun was later located.

No officers were hurt.

An obituary for Zigler published by a local funeral home says Zigler worked as a builder of playground equipment, bike shops and marinas, and as a bicycle repairer.

The obituary says Zigler enjoyed magic tricks and telling jokes.

Court records show Zigler had no prior history of violence or criminal activity.

The incident remains under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
