Person arrested in Milton after 6-hour standoff with SWAT team

shots-fired

| By Big Radio News Staff |
Authorities arrested a person they say held a standoff in a Milton Apartment for six hours after a reported shooting Wednesday evening.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office says police responded to a “shots-fired” call at 33 Northside Drive about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Milton police responding surrounded the apartments and evacuated residents, and then called in a sheriff’s office SWAT team and a hostage negotiation team. The team tried to contact a person inside during the incident, which the sheriff’s office says spilled over from late Wednesday into early Thursday morning.
The sheriff’s office says officers eventually found the person inside the apartment, hiding in a storage area, about 1 a.m. Thursday.
Police have not described why a hostage team was called to the scene, or if there were any hostages during the six hours the person apparently held police at bay.
Police haven’t disclosed the identity of the person arrested, and they haven’t disclosed other circumstances behind the incident, but they said the say the person went in custody peacefully.
Milton police have deferred all comment on the case to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office. As of noon, the sheriff’s office had not released more information on the incident.
The investigation continues.
