The Beloit Police Department has been in its current location attached to Beloit City Hall since 1983.

Police chief Andre Sayles says the 13,000 square foot space, windowless space is inadequate to operate a law enforcement agency efficiently and effectively.

On Monday night the Beloit City Council unanimously approved a more than $68,000 contract with Wold Architects to complete a space needs study of the Beloit Police Department.

The study, which is expected to take five to six months, will explore short and long term space needs for the operation of the police department and make facility recommendations for future success.
