The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office is releasing the name of the man who was shot to death by a Roscoe police officer in the City of Beloit last Saturday morning.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation, along with the Winnebago Boone County Integrity Task Force are leading the investigation into the incident which began just after 9:00 a-m on March 16th with a traffic stop on Route 251 near Prairie Hill Road in South Beloit.
Authorities say officers were attempting to arrest the passenger, 19-year-old Ray Castro of South Beloit, when the woman driving, sped off.
The driver was shot in the leg and crashed, and Castro fled the vehicle, hijacked a car, and drove into Beloit.
Authorities say Castro was shot when he attempted to ram his vehicle into a Roscoe squad car.
He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The woman was listed in stable condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
