Beloit police investigate shooting death

Beloit police say one person is dead after a shooting early Friday in the city’s Merrill neighborhood.
Police are now investigating a homicide after they say emergency responders were unable to save a person mortally wounded after the were shot around 1:30 a.m. on Friday in the 1400 block of Nelson Avenue.
Police have no one in custody in the shooting, and they’re not sure yet of a motive.
Police have not released the name of the person killed, saying they’re still notifying family members.
In a statement Friday, Beloit Police Chief Andre Sayles said, “this tragic loss of life deeply saddens us, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to the victim’s loved ones.”
As of 10 a.m. Friday, police haven’t released any other details in the shooting.
