A long-time eyesore in the City of South Beloit could be gone soon.

A judge orders the demolition of a blighted South Beloit hotel and imposes more than $8 million in fines on the property owner.

South Beloit City Administrator Sonya Hoppes says the Garden Hotel was closed and abandoned in March of 2019.

Hoppes says property-owner New Chapter Group has 30 days to tear down the building or the City will tear it down for them.

The City Council has already squirreled away more than $2 million for the endeavor.
