A project that would turn the former First National Bank in downtown Janesville into the Rock County Children’s Museum is within $2 million of being a go, private fundraisers say.
John Westphal, president of the board of directors for the startup children’s museum, says the group’s raised almost $8 million of their $10 million fundraising goal.
The city of Janesville has contributed $2 million for the project. The Rock County Board is set to decide Thursday whether to allocate $500,000 in ARPA funding to the children’s museum.
Westphal says the historic portion of the former bank will be left standing, and the newer drive-thru will be torn down and replaced with a new, two-story structure.
