About 8% of the city of Janesville’s 24,400 real estate parcels will change in value in the city’s 2024 property tax assessments.
City Assessor Michelle Laube says the city mailed notices to 2,043 property owners last week.
Unlike last year’s revaluation, which increased assessed values dramatically for thousands of homeowners, the 2024 adjustment is what Laube calls a “maintenance assessment roll.” She says it will not account for changes in market conditions.
Laube says the assessor’s office can only recalculate market value appreciation or depreciation during a citywide revaluation, which she says isn’t planned until 2027.
Laube says the change notices include information on the assessment and the dates and times of the assessor’s open book sessions and board of review hearings, in case people seek to contest their assessment.
