Authorities have shut down a half-mile stretch of Highway 59 west of Edgerton for utility repairs after a person crashed into a power pole over the weekend.

A Lakeside Fire and Rescue official says one person was taken to a hospital injured Saturday night after their vehicle apparently smashed into an electrical utility pole between County H and Wallin Road just west of Edgerton.

The official said the utility pole struck is a main power feed. Crews have been working Monday morning to repair the damage and replace the pole.

The state Department of Transportation says the stretch of 59 remains closed as of mid-morning Monday for utility repairs the state says could take several hours.
