A Beloit police officer is on leave after shooting and killing a person authorities say tried to attack someone with two blades.
The state Department of Justice says Beloit police had responded at 10 a.m. Sunday to a 911 call of a disturbance in the 1700 block of Ashland Avenue in Beloit’s Merill neighborhood when they saw a person and charging at someone else while brandishing what police call “two bladed weapons.”
Police told the person to drop the blades, but the person ignored those orders, and an officer shot them. The person later died at a hospital.
Police reported no other injuries.
The Department of Justice says officers involved had their body cameras on during the incident.
