Janesville police arrested three men after authorities say one of them tore through yards in a stolen car on the city’s west side after an armed robbery over a drug deal Sunday evening.
Police say they arrested 27-year-old Jesse Overton of Janesville after they saw him running with a backpack as police were responding to a man being held at gunpoint in the middle of Delaware Drive. That’s in a trailer park on the city’s west side.
Police say Overton jumped in a stolen car and ripped through yards to get to South Crosby Avenue. Police then pursued Overton east along West Court Street, and north to the Mercyhealth Mall along North Washington Street, where police cornered his vehicle with squad cars.
Police say the backpack Overton had was stuffed with three handguns and 1.5 pounds of marijuana. Police say they learned Overton was part of the west side gun robbery, which officers say was over an apparent drug deal involving marijuana.
They say Overton got the backpack from 50-year-old Janesville resident Christopher Causey, who officers say stole it from an unidentified person while pointing a gun at the person’s head.
18-year-old Logan Hernandez, named as an accomplice in the robbery, was later arrested alongside Causey.
Overton faces drug trafficking charges alongside carrying a concealed weapon, aiding a robbery, and fleeing police.
Causey and Hernandez face armed robbery charges alongside drug trafficking. Causey is a previously convicted felon.
