The superintendent of the Janesville School district is responding to a protest last week where employees wore black to school in opposition of insurance increases.

Holzman says employees have the right to express their opinion.

Holzman says the district saw 15 to 20 percent increases from insurance providers.

Holzman says the district’s portion of health insurance premiums is increasing by about 9.8 percent while employee costs are increasing by about five percent on average.

Currently the district pays 90 percent of the insurance plan costs for employees. In the future the district will only pay 88 percent of the cost.
