The City of Janesville is getting the lead out. Literally.
Utility Director Dave Botts says the City has applied for a $1.1 million safe drinking water loan from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
There are about 200 lead water service lines left in the City of Janesville. Botts says while the lines themselves are iron, at one point they were connected to pipes made of lead.
Botts says the city’s goal is to have all lead water lines replaced by 2025.
The public can submit comments to the DNR over potential environmental impacts of the project through June 3.
