At a Rock County staff committee meeting Monday afternoon, county employees voiced their concerns about possible increases to monthly health insurance payments.
County Administrator Josh Smith says a change to the plan could increase out-of-pocket costs, implement premiums, or both as a way to cover increasing costs.
One employee says the extra cost to a family plan is not equitable and marginalizes a significant number of employees, while another says she feels the changes are rushed, and employees are panicking and don’t know what to expect.
Town of Harmony Chair Jeff Klenz says turnover in county employees leaving because of the increase in insurance could hurt smaller townships because they rely on the county for duties carried out by public works, the highway department, the county clerk’s office, and the health department.
A final decision on the change could be made at the staff committee’s June 10 meeting.
