UPDATE: Beloit police say man attacked them in “aggressive” altercation that included gunfire

| By Big Radio News Staff |
Beloit police say nobody was injured after a man attacked officers in an incident Wednesday afternoon that included a gun being shot.
Police did not name a man they call a “suspect” who officers say aggressively attacked police after they’d responded to reports of an unwanted person in the 800 block of Oak Street.
Police cordoned off an area of the block on the west side for about an hour at between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said in a social media post they arrested the man who attacked the officers.
Nobody was physically injured, but police say someone fired a gun in the altercation. As of late Wednesday, police had released no other details on the gunfire, and police hadn’t given more information on the attack or what prompted it.
According to the Rock County 911 Communications Center, a call for an unwanted subject came in just after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
A retired WCLO news reporter who lives in the area observed multiple Beloit police and fire department vehicles on scene. A home on the 800 block of Oak Street was cordoned off with yellow crime tape, and an ambulance was seen leaving the area with a patient in the back.
WCLO News sent an email to Police Chief Andre Sayles requesting more information about the incident and the person loaded into an ambulance. He initially responded, “Medical emergency. With an officer use of force.”
In a statement Wednesday night, Beloit police say the incident is under investigation, and police are “committed to transparency throughout this process. Further details will be released as they become available.”
1230 AM WCLO Radio and wclo.com will continue tracking this situation.
