Beloit police say 34-year-old Beloit resident Thomas O. Sykes is the man police arrested after they say he assaulted an officer in a violent encounter Wednesday.
Police tell WCLO they booked Sykes into Rock County jail on counts of assaulting an officer, trespassing and disorderly conduct in the incident.
It happened about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in the 800 block of Oak Street on the city’s west side.
Police haven’t given details of the incident, other than to call it a report of an “unwanted subject.”
Police say someone shot a gun during the incident, but they haven’t given details, and they haven’t described what led to Sykes’ encounter with police. A city of Beloit spokeswoman says no one got struck by gunfire in the incident, and nobody was hurt.
The spokeswoman declined further comment, saying the police department as of Thursday was still reviewing the incident.
Arrest records show Sykes has a history of arrests for drug possession, battery, and theft. Court records show that Wednesday was the second time Sykes has been arrested for assaulting police.
