The Janesville School Board says a community-wide survey by the school district shows the bulk of people polled would support the district’s plans to float an operating referendum this fall.
At a meeting Tuesday, School Perceptions staff member Rob DeMeuse says more than 3,200 people responded to the survey, and results show the majority of respondents support renewing a $14.5-million operating referendum for two years.
But the bigger-ticket referendum item, a $169.5 million capital referendum to pay for major overhauls to the district’s aging buildings, has proven far less popular among residents.
DeMeuse says despite evidence of public support for the smaller, operating referendum, the majority of respondents say they would not support a much more massive capital referendum.
In July, the district could put a discussion on tap over what, if any, referendum questions to place on the November ballot.
