Janesville City Council ratifies tornado emergency

Residents and business of the south side of Janesville continue pick up the pieces following an EF-2 tornado that touched down a little over two weeks ago.
City Manager Kevin Lahner says City the City has spent over $478,000 on the response, and property damage estimates are currently over $20 million.
Lahner says it’s unlikely the City will qualify for a federal emergency declaration, however they have met the threshold for a state emergency declaration.
The Janesville City Council voted unanimously this week to ratify the state of emergency that acting City Manager Chad Pearson declared the night of the twister on June 22nd.
