A Rock County man will spend 40 years in prison for shooting the mother of his five children as they slept. It’s a killing prosecutors say was in cold blood.

Rock County Judge Derrick Grubb handed 35-year-old Beloiter Tyrone Young 40 years in prison and 20 years probation on Friday in Rock County Court. Young already pleaded guilty to fatally shooting Siphannya “Bee” Bousar on Feb. 22, 2023.

Assistant Rock County District Attorney Richard Sullivan argued for the 40-year prison term for Young, saying he wanted to pursue maximum punishment. He argued the crime was premeditated.

Sullivan says Young planned the killing, and had shot Bousar through the top of her head as she cowered on the floor of Young’s mom’s house.

Court records show that the two had been arguing over their relationship coming to an end, and that Bousar was picking up the kids for shared custody at the time of the shooting.

The records show that before Bousar came by to get the kids from Young’s mom’s house, where Young lived at the time, Young had texted Bousar, saying, “If I can’t have you, no one can.”

Sullivan says Young put the children to bed and hung a blanket in a doorway between them and the room where he later shot Bousar.

Sullivan says forensic evidence proves Young shot himself in the arm, and then tried to tell cops that Bousar had shot him — and that Bousar had gotten shot inadvertently as they wrestled over the gun.

Rock County Judge Derrick Grubb called the killing an “execution” that Young then followed up with lies to police. Grubb agreed with Sullivan that Young had concocted a false narrative to try to “victim-blame” Bousar after she was already dead.

Grubb handed down the heavy sentence Friday despite Y0ung’s attorney arguing that it wouldn’t take 40 years to rehabilitate Y0ung. The attorney asked instead for 15 years behind bars, saying a 40-year sentence means Young will be an elderly man by the time he’s released.

Grubb said the sentence — 60 years in total — is based on the facts the crime was premeditated, and that Young had destroyed the lives of the five children, who police had to pull out through a bedroom window so they wouldn’t see their own mother shot dead.

One of the children had testified they’d heard the gunshots and understood what it meant. Court records show that child had ushered their siblings out the window to police care, and then made sure their dog got out, too, before they left through the window.

Young cried as the sentence came down Friday. He told the court he didn’t know what kind of punishment he deserved, but he was sorry for what he’d done.

Grubb said he believes it would have been a “crime” in and of itself had he not given Young the maximum sentence possible.
