In July alone, the Red Cross experiences a shortfall of more than 19,000 blood donations.
Extreme heat has canceled about 100 blood drives in almost all of the states where the American Red Cross operates.
Spokesperson Laura McGuire says this combined with other seasonal obstacles like travel and summer activities means the Red Cross is in dire need of blood.
Blood drives are happening Wednesday from noon until 5:00 at the Venue in downtown Janesville; and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Hedberg Public Library.
