Janesville police and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are partnering to deter drunken driving from this Friday, Aug. 16, through Labor Day weekend with the high-visibility “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign.
The Janesville Police Department and the NHTSA said in a news release there were 490 crash fatalities in the U.S. during the 2022 Labor Day weekend. Of those fatalities, 39% involved a drunken driver, and a quarter of those incidents involved drivers who had blood-alcohol levels of 0.15 or more.
The agencies urge people to plan ahead if they know they’ll be drinking and to use a designated driver or a taxi or ride-sharing service to get home safely. They also say people should call local law enforcement if they spot a potentially drunken driver.
