
One person is dead following an apparent fire at a home on the 1800 block of Memorial Drive in Janesville.
The Janesville Fire Department says Janesville police were dispatched to the residence just before 12:30 Thursday afternoon for a welfare check.
First responders didn’t find any smoke or active fire, but determined that a fire had occurred inside the home in the previous 12 hours. The blaze was apparently extinguished by a lack of oxygen. The fire department says a high level of carbon monoxide was found inside the home.
The resident of the home was found dead inside.
The Janesville Fire Department says the home didn’t have any working smoke alarms and a bedroom door was left open.
The Janesville Fire Department and the American Red Cross are teaming up on September 5th to install free smoke alarms in any residence in Janesville.
