Authorities say one person is hospitalized after getting hurt in an apartment fire that broke out on Janesville’s east side Sunday afternoon.

Janesville Fire Department says police were helping pull people out of a burning, first-floor apartment unit when fire crews arrived at 2006 Morningside Drive.

This was at a two-story, eight-unit apartment, shortly before 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Fire crews put out the fire with a water hose.

One resident was apparently hurt in the fire. Medics transported them for treatment at Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville.

The fire damaged only the lower unit where it started. Residents in the other seven units are already back in their apartments. But people who live in the apartment that burned are displaced. The American Red Cross is helping them.

The fire remains under investigation.
