Authorities say a fire destroyed a town of Beloit house and killed three pets on West Spring Creek Road on Monday morning.
Town of Beloit Fire Chief Dan Pease says a two-story house at 4108 West Spring Creek Road was “100-percent” destroyed after a fire broke out there around 9:30 a.m. Monday.
The residence is on a wooded lot in a rural subdivision about two miles west of Beloit city limits. Pease says the town had to truck in tankers of water because West Spring Creek Road does not have fire hydrants.
Pease says fire officials are investigating what caused the blaze, but the fire department suspects it was an electrical fire. He says a resident was away at work when the fire broke out.
Three dogs died in the blaze. One firefighter had minor injuries.
Town of Beloit fire officials reported they initially tried to go in to the house to save the dogs, but heat from the fire drove them back.
Fire officials says the house had more than $400,000 in damage.
Pease said firefighters were able to keep a nearby outbuilding on the property from catching fire.
He says several firefighting crews cycled on and off duty to relieve each other Monday as temperatures climbed into the low 90s by late morning.
