Police in Walworth County arrested an Illinois man for an apparent assault and attempted dog-napping.

Anthony Alejandro, 52, of Rockford was arrested Thursday night after authorities responded to the Pioneer Estates mobile home park in the town of Darien, where a man reportedly attacked a woman with a knife and tried to take her dog.

Witnesses said Alejandro retreated into a home, where a sheriff’s office SWAT team and police dog unit took him into custody.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office says there was a warrant out for Alejandro’s arrest in Winnebago County, Illinois, for failure to appear in court after he was charged with aggravated battery of a peace officer.

The woman who was assaulted in Thursday’s incident received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
