Authorities identify the Beloit man who died Saturday in the Rock County Jail.

Jacob L. West, 30, of Beloit died Saturday night. The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office completed an autopsy Monday but says the cause and manner of death are still pending and that additional testing is underway.

As previously reported, a correctional officer found West hanging in a cell where he was the only occupant during a routine security check Saturday night.

First responders tried to revive the man but couldn’t.

West was taken into custody in April on misdemeanor criminal charges, felony possession of a firearm by a felon and a probation violation.

The death comes after a separate suicide attempt reported at the jail last week in which an inmate “intentionally fell” from a balcony. That person did not die but suffered serious injuries.

Big Radio has reached out to Rock County jail officials for further comment on both incidents.
