
For the third time in recent memory a drunk driver is accused of crashing through barricades and into public festivities in downtown Beloit.
The latest incident occurred this past Saturday just before 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of East Grand Avenue and State Street during Oktoberfest.
33-year-old Gaudencio Cruz Gutierrez of Beloit is being held on a $50,000 cash bond on charges of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and two counts of bail jumping.
Police say several people had to dive out of the way when Cruz Gutierrez barreled through a barrier and into a crowd. Nobody was hurt.
42-year-old Curtis Metz of Orangeville, Illinois was sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted of driving into the Grand Lighted Parade in Beloit in 2019.
In July 33-year-old Anthony Benson of South Beloit was charged with driving through barricades and into a crowd at Eclipse Center Street and Eclipse Boulevard during 4th of July festivities. One person was injured during that incident.
