The city of Janesville’s draft budget gives a glimpse at the first year of operations at the Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center. It’s expected to run at a loss.
The budget preview estimates that in 2025, the Woodman’s Center’s will generate $1.28 million in costs. That will outpace the revenue the center’s events bring in during its first year.
The gap would leave the ice arena and multiuse hall’s operations about $117,000 in the red.
That’s because the venue isn’t scheduled to open until September 2025, leaving it just the last four months of the year to produce revenue. That’s not enough to offset a full year’s worth of costs as the city pays a contractor to ready the center for action.
The city has not released cost and revenue forecasts for the Woodman’s Center, but City Finance Director Dave Godek thinks the center will haul in around $2 million in 2026, the first year the Woodman’s Center will be up and running for 12 months.
