After more than a decade at the helm, Rock County Administrator Josh Smith announces his resignation.
Smith is leaving November 15th to take the position of Senior Associate Vice President of Finance at the Universites of Wisconsin.
Smith says he feels the timing of his departure, shortly after adoption of the 2025 budget and in the middle of the County Board term, will be less disruptive and give the board time to find a successor.
Rock County Board Chair Kevin Leavy says Smith’s calm demeanor helped making tough decisions a little easier.
Smith was appointed Rock County administrator in June of 2014. Prior to that he served as assistant to the Rock County administrator.
As of Tuesday morning, the county board had not indicated specific plans to appoint an interim county administrator or launch a search for a new administrator.
Smith was appointed in 2014 following a recruitment and search that initially yielded more than 60 applicants.
Smith’s predecessor, former Craig Knutson, had retired in 2014 after serving as Rock County’s administrator for 30 years.
