Two stateline Big Lots stores will be closing soon — including the Janesville store on Milton Avenue.
Since September, the bargain retailer has been listing scores of stores for closure amid a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
A batch of closures that appeared in a filing last month did not include the Janesville location, but a fresh court filing last Friday included the store at 1800 Milton Ave.
Property owner WC Johnson LLC says Big Lots has been at that address since 1992 after subleasing from a Kohl’s grocery store.
Also added to the list of closures is the Big Lots store at 8750 N. Second St., in Machesney Park, Illinois. Closing dates were not part of the filing.
Hundreds of stores representing 40% of 1,380 Big Lots locations nationwide will be closed as part of the company’s bankruptcy and pending sale to a private equity group.
