Family Services of Southern Wisconsin is granted $2 million as it pushes to open a new facility.

The nonprofit received the money from Gov. Tony Evers’ Non-State Grant Program.

Family Services is in the middle of building its Next Steps Family Resilience Center in the former Royce Elementary School building on Liberty Avenue in Beloit.

The center will provide a new transitional housing program with fully furnished apartments, child care and on-site supportive services to families facing domestic abuse, poverty and other challenges.

The Beloit School District is also letting Family Services store donated items that will furnish the apartments at the Wright Building on Woodward Avenue.

A first round of construction is set to be finished in February with services to follow in March.
