The future management of cable access channel JATV is in question.
At least one member of the Janesville City Council is raising the alarm about what appears to be a proposal to move oversight of the City’s cable access television channel from the Hedberg Public Library’s board of trustees to the City Manager’s office.
Council Member Heather Miller says when she questioned City Manager Kevin Lahner about denying a $15,000 budget request from JATV he responded that,”we are consolidating our communication efforts within the budget to create a larger creative team under the direction of the City Manager’s Office.”
In an email to council members Lahner further elaborates, “the combination of JATV and the City’s communication staff will provide for greater use of our video resources that will be distributed across a larger set of platforms.”
Big Radio reached out to City Manager Kevin Lahner for clarification but he did not respond to a request for comment by air time.
