The city of Beloit is the recipient of $766,000 from the state’s Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program, which supports recreational infrastructure on state and municipal properties. Gov. Tony Evers announced the award Friday morning.
That money will go toward finishing a portion of riverwalk in downtown Beloit that will be built after the demolition of the 80-100 E. Grand Ave. building is completed.
Work to tear down that structure began last month. Once it’s down and the riverwalk project is finished, there will be a pedestrian link from ABC Supply Stadium near the state line all the way up through Riverside Park to the Ken Hendricks Bridge.
The state announced 12 grants totaling $7.7 million Friday morning. Beloit’s grant was the fourth biggest among them.
