Rock County Judge John Wood hands down a maximum sentence for homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

Keith Rose, 45, of Evansville will serve 15 years in initial confinement and then have 10 years of extended supervision. He pleaded guilty on Aug. 6 and received his sentence Friday.

Rose was driving high on methamphetamine at around 4:30 the morning of June 22, 2023, on Highway 11 west of Janesville when he crossed the centerline and struck a motorcyclist.

The 53-year-old motorcycle rider died at the scene. Police arrested Rose after they found him hiding in the brush along the side of the highway as first responders worked at the scene and tried to resuscitate the victim.

The district attorney’s office says the case shows how the criminal justice system can address the danger of intoxicated driving in society.
