Work on a master plan for School District of Janesville athletic and physical education facilities continues.

District Athletic Director Jim McClowry gave a sweeping report on his office’s work to the Janesville School Board’s Personnel, Policy and Curriculum Committee earlier this week.

He says his team has made some headway in putting together a plan that will govern use and maintenance of facilities on school grounds, such as tennis courts and auxiliary fields, and those away from school grounds, such as Monterey Stadium and the baseball diamond at Riverside Park.

Part of the job is assessing what upgrades have been done elsewhere, both within the Big Eight Conference in which Janesville’s high schools compete and at other nearby schools.

The districts in Madison, Sun Prairie, Verona and Middleton, for instance, all have upgraded their athletics venues recently. The big question, McClowry says, is how can Janesville proceed to stay relatively competitive in terms of facilities?
