School District of Beloit administrators want to spend $1,080,609 to replace parts of the Aldrich Middle School roof next summer.

The district solicited bids for the work last year but decided to put off the work because of financial constraints.

Director of Facility Services Tommy Bricco says the roof sections in question all date to at least 1998 and have reached the end of their functional lives. He showed members of the Business, Operations and Finance Committee photos of surface wear and ponding on the roof during the committee’s meeting Tuesday night.

Bricco says the district would split payment for the new roof between the current fiscal year and next. The contractors, GBR Roofing and Roofer’s Mart, have agreed to honor the bids they submitted last year, which Bricco says is a generous offer that likely wouldn’t be on the table if the district puts off the work again.

The issue will likely be back in front of the committee next month.
