With rent prices on the rise and record inflation, the Rock County Salvation Army faces a need to provide Christmas assistance to more families than ever this year.

Lt. Jennifer Rysdyk says she was forced to shut down registration for the program that provides gifts and items for a holiday meal early due to an overwhelming response.

Rysdyk says the Salvation Army has approved 986 kids and 422 families to receive gifts and food for a holiday meal this season. That’s 250 more kids than last year.

Rysdyk says members of the community can help by picking up a tag from one of the Angel Trees located around the community, making a cash donation, or donating items like frozen turkeys and hams.

Rysdyk says the Salvation Army also needs people to man its Red Kettles — and donate to the red kettles. Right now, the Red Kettle Campaign is at 30% of its annual goal.
