An entrepreneur hopes to open a new arts and crafts studio on Beloit’s east side.
Keira Wilson of Beloit is applying for a zoning change at 1400 White Ave. that would allow her to open a studio with a café and retail space called The Culture Lounge on the ground floor.
The building is in a residential neighborhood and has an occupied upstairs apartment. There has been a vacant commercial space below since 2006, but because it hasn’t been in use for more than a year, a zoning change is needed to revive it.
Wilson’s request will be in front of the Beloit Plan Commission on Wednesday night. City staff is recommending approval of the application. Wilson says the neighborhood is behind the plan and that Beloit College students seemed enthusiastic about it, too.
She expects to open for business in April or May at the latest.
