The Dane County Medical Examiner releases the names of the two victims authorities say died during Monday’s school shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison.
The medical examiner says the victims gunned down were 42-year-old teacher Erin M. West, of Deforest, and 14-year-old Madison resident Rubi P. Vergara. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The two died at the hands of shooter Natalie “Samantha” L. Rupnow, a 15-year-old Madison resident and student at the Madison private school.
Their cause of death is listed as “homicidal firearm-related trauma.”
Rupnow’s cause of death is listed as “firearm-related trauma” – suggesting Rupnow shot herself. She was pronounced dead Monday at a hospital.
Police say there’s an indication Rupnow was bullied in the past. Authorities believe Rupnow might have joined a shooting range in the months leading up to Monday’s killings.
Obituaries say Vergara loved to create art, sing and play keyboard music.
