City of Janesville cat and dog licenses are now available for 2025.
City Clerk/Treasurer Lori Stottler says municipalities are required by state law to license pet cats and dogs that are older than 5 months. Proof of valid rabies vaccination is required to obtain a license.
For spayed or neutered animals, licenses cost $15; for animals that haven’t had those procedures, they cost $25. The fine for keeping unlicensed pets is $263.50.
Licenses may be purchased through March 31 at the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office at City Hall. There is also a process to mail in an application form to receive a license.
Stottler says license info is shared with the police department and the local humane society and can come in handy if a pet strays too far from home.
People licensing their dogs may also purchase a permit to use Paw Print Park on the city’s south side through 2025. Those permits cost $20 for the first registered dog and $5 for additional permits. They cannot be purchased without proof of a current pet license.
