While most people are still nestled all snug in their beds, a high-speed police chase unfolds on the streets of Janesville the morning after Christmas.

Janesville Police Department Lt. Jim Holford says police saw a car traveling the wrong way on Milton Avenue at 2:38 a.m. Thursday with no headlights on.

Holford says when officers tried to stop the driver, he fled at high speed. At one point during the pursuit, the driver stopped, but when police got out of their cruisers, the driver rammed one of the squad cars and the pursuit continued.

The chase finally ended when an officer crashed into the suspect’s vehicle and disabled it near the intersection of Memorial Drive and Washington Street on the west side of the Rock River.

Holford says the driver is being held on pending charges of recklessly endangering safety, fleeing, battery to law enforcement, reckless driving, hit and run, and a first OWI offense.
