Beloit police hope someone’s Ring camera or cell phone nabbed evidence that could spark an arrest in Thursday night’s homicidal shooting.
City Spokeswoman Sarah Lock says Beloit police have launched a special digital evidence portal to tap the public for any video footage that could show police what happened during the holiday shooting that killed a man and wounded a woman.
The gunfire erupted about 7:30 p.m. last night in the 1200 block of Oak Street on the city’s west side.
The woman wounded was shot but not severely injured. She was being treated at a hospital.
Lock says police sometimes offer shooting crime witnesses a digital portal so they can share any videos of the crime captured by cell phone or home security cameras. Lock says it’s the first time the city’s ever made that portal publicly available through the city’s web site.
Lock says it’s just another tool the city hopes can bring swift arrests in gun homicide cases.
In Janesville, police say they’re still fishing for an arrest in a shooting December 17th on the city’s near west side. That gun play left one man clinging to life in the hospital. Police say they’d been shot on their left side in the torso by an angry neighbor.
