The Rock County Sheriff’s Office says a common scam is going around again.
The office says county residents have been receiving calls from people identifying themselves as current sheriff’s deputies or supervisors and demanding money to clear up a legal matter.
The scammers’ voicemail messages are also set up to impersonate sheriff’s office staff if call recipients try to call back.
The sheriff’s office says it doesn’t ever call residents asking for money.
Authorities are not aware of any monetary loss to the public at this time. They remind people not to give personal information or make payments over the phone unless they can verify the source of the call.
Anyone receiving such scam calls are urged to report it to the Rock County Communications Center at 608-757-2244.
