The Wisconsin Governor’s office continues to tour Rock County this week touting a new health care campaign as part of the governor’s proposed biennial budget.
Governor Tony Evers was in Janesville earlier this week to tout his proposal to launch a state health care audit bureau to investigate insurance companies that frequently deny requests for prior authorization.
Thursday, Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez visited Edgerton Hospital to tout workforce development plans in the governor’s budget that focus on a statewide nurse shortage.
Rodriguez says Evers’ budget would pay for more clinical instructors, simulation labs and forgivable loans to ease a nationwide bottleneck for those pursuing nursing degrees.
Edgerton Hospital Human Resources VP Mark Kinschi asked Rodriguez to keep an eye on the same types of bottlenecks for people training to become medical Radiology technicians.
Kinschi says even though a few local technical colleges offer radiology tech training, he says there aren’t enough instructors and course sections to teach to the growing demand for those who want radiology certification.
And that’s as small hospitals like Edgerton with aging rural populations are seeing a growing need for radiology services.
Rodriguez says Evers aims to unravel the nursing shortage first, and then and apply any new models to boost other health care roles in short supply.
