A Janesville man convicted earlier this year of reckless homicide will spend 20 years in the prison system.

The first decade of the sentence for Mark McCoy, 51, must be served in custody. Rock County Judge Ashley Morse handed down the sentence Friday.

A jury found earlier this year that McCoy crossed the centerline on County Road D and caused a crash that killed a 55-year-old Janesville woman in April 2023.

McCoy had told police he had been drinking the day of the incident, but a blood draw taken hours after the crash and after McCoy had been given IV fluids came back under the legal limit.

During McCoy’s trial, a witness testified that McCoy had been in three prior crashes after falling asleep while driving.
