A 37-year-old Janesville man who was caught on video raping a victim that was passed out drunk will not have to register as a sex offender when he’s released from the Rock County Jail in less than a month.
According to online court records Dontiez Etchin plead guilty Friday morning to fourth degree sexual assault, which is a misdemeanor. He was originally charged with second-degree sexual assault of an intoxicated victim which is a felony.
Rock County Judge Karl Hanson sentenced Ethin to nine months in the Rock County Jail, but he’s already served more than eight months while waiting for his case to work its way through the court.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim was drinking heavily with her roommate and Etchin at a residence on the 300 block of South Main Street when she went to her room to pass out.
The victim awoke later to find Etchin raping her. Etchin took off when confronted and the victim called police.
Janesville Police say the victim had a security camera in her bedroom which captured the assault.
