Nobody was hurt but more than 20 people were left without a home after an apartment fire on the west side of Beloit.
The first City of Beloit Fire Department crew was called to an apartment building in the 1900 block of Cleora Drive at 1:36 p.m. Saturday.
Video of the fire posted online showed flames consuming a large section of the second floor.
The fire department says residents were self-evacuating when firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported, and no other occupants were found in a search of the building.
People living in 10 affected units are displaced. The Red Cross and the building owner were on the scene to assist them.
The cause of the fire and a damage estimate were not available Saturday night.
Eleven other fire departments were part of the response after Beloit called for mutual aid assistance. Those included the town of Beloit, Janesville, town of Turtle, Footville, Orfordville, Clinton, Edgerton and Monroe in Wisconsin and South Beloit, Harlem-Roscoe and North Park in Illinois.
The fire broke out about 16 hours after a multialarm fire in downtown Monroe pulled some Rock County crews into the response on Friday night.
