Rock County prosecutors say two Evansville adults filmed their sexual encounters with a 14-year-old girl and that the alleged crimes were discovered after the teen shot herself Sunday morning.

According to the criminal complaint charging 26-year-old Hunter Drefahl and 20-year-old Alyssa Aherns with multiple child sex crimes, Evansville police were flagged down in the 300 block of South Madison Street to assist a teenage girl with a gunshot wound to her head. She is identified in the complaint by the initials FH.

She was taken to two hospitals before dying Sunday afternoon.

As police investigated the circumstances of the shooting, the complaint says police found and searched the girl’s electronics and found videos of sex acts involving Ahrens, Drefahl and the victim.

The complaint says Ahrens and Drefahl lived at the home on Madison Street and that FH had begun spending nights there, as well. Ahrens told police FH had gotten upset earlier Sunday morning because she feared Ahrens and Drefahl would try to sell the videos.

On the morning of the shooting, Drefahl says he was watching TV at home when FH found an unsecured, loaded gun and shot herself.

Ahrens and Drefahl face charges of second-degree sex assault of a child under 16, sexual exploitation of a child, and multiple counts of possession of child pornography. Ahrens is also accused of possessing meth.

They were initially arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor causing death, but the District Attorney does not initially appear to be pursuing those charges.

Ahrens and Drefahl made initial appearances in Rock County Court Tuesday afternoon. Ahrens received a $500,000 cash bond, while Drefahl’s bond was set at $750,000.

An active Go-Fund-Me campaign for a 14-year-old named Florencia Henthorn says the Evansville girl died Sunday and was a victim of gun violence. Neither police nor prosecutors have officially identified the victim as of Tuesday afternoon.
